Why Is My Faith So Strong?

To be honest, I didn’t get my strong faith from reading my bible.. or from sitting in church.. or from community groups.

My faith became strong because of someone else’s faith: my mom’s.

My mama. One of the most honest human beings you’ll ever meet.

Since I was little, my mom’s been talking about God. “God this” and “God that” and “God knows” and “trust God”. Not only has she talked about Him, she’s lived out her belief and her faith in Him and His doings.

My mom has woven God into every area of her life, and while that may be odd to some or cause others to walk the other way, she continues believing that He’s behind everything, and she doesn’t shy away from letting others know it.

It’s amazing to me how bold she is to people – whether they’re her age, younger than her, older than her, men, anyone.

When you have a testimony like she has and then Jesus flips your world into something new, you want to sing His praises. And she does.

She’s not the kind of woman who tries to impress people. She doesn’t try to win your friendship. She’s lovingly honest and always has been – and if you’re easily offended, you should never ask her what she thinks about something if you can’t handle an honest answer.

Because of her honesty, I’ve developed a thick skin that doesn’t take an ego hit from someone else’s truth. It’s their truth and that’s okay.

Seeing her lean on God the way she does – good times or down times – has ignited a foundation of firm belief in me.

Because of her, there’s no doubt in my mind that God exists, that God cares, that God made me for a purpose, and that living for Him is of utmost importance.

If you have a parent that teaches you the things of God, be grateful. They don’t have to be perfect, but if they’re planting God seeds, hold onto those.

And if you’re a parent, I hope you’re using your influence to teach your kids that there is Someone greater than anything we can see, and I hope your kids are inspired by the way you live your life for Him.

I'm so thankful my mama has cared more about the unseen than the seen... and has taught me to do the same.

Pray and push,
Venus

If you decide that you want God in your life, here's a simple prayer you can say quietly or out loud:

Dear God, I'm a sinner. I’m sorry for my sin; please forgive me.

I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son and that He died for my sins and You raised Him to life.

I want to invite Him into my heart to take control of my life.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

(No pressure, but if you do say this prayer, I'd love to know so you're not stuck with the thought of, "Okaaaaay, what now?")
