Pros and Cons of Working from Home

I’ve been working from home for the past few months. Before that, I solely did acting, which was a lot of work-from-home stuff along with occasionally going places for class, auditions, shoots, etc.

When my husband and I moved to where we are now (outside of Austin and San Antonio, Texas), I knew that anywhere we wanted to go would be a bit of a drive… nothing major but we used to live in Austin where everything we needed was within a 3 mile radius.

I set out to look for WFH jobs and came across a website called FlexJobs that is fantastic. Even though I didn’t get my current job through them, I found them to be extremely helpful when I was on the hunt. They have monthly, quarterly, and yearly subscriptions (I found a promo code and bought the full year for $35. Quarterly was $30).

While I was searching, I came across blog posts about work-from-home jobs and one of them mentioned a company of whom I’d never heard. I did my research on them, checked out what the job entailed, and loved their mission. So, I applied, interviewed, and got hired. AND I LOVE IT.

I have to be honest: the pros majorly outweigh the cons of working from home – majorly. But here’s the list:

PROS:
1.No need to leave home an hour early and get ready an hour before that
2. No need to dress up (unless I want to)
3. I can see my husband within 1 minute of leaving my office
4. I can head into my office within 10 minutes of needing to clock in
5. My types of snacks and food are within 15 feet of me
6. No need to worry about traffic
7. I don’t put any miles on my car
8. The weather doesn’t affect my ability to do my job (unless it’s a power outage)
9. I’m not tempted to stop by a fast food place at lunch or on my drive in to work
10. No concerns of getting into a wreck
11. I can work from anywhere in the world, as long as I have internet (bonus for traveling!)

CONS:
1. no physical interaction with people

With my specific job, I have even more PROS:
1. I can work in one hour shifts
2. I get to make an immediate difference for someone in need
3. My tasks are always different
4. I can pick up a shift whenever I want
5. I get to chat with coworkers online
6. We’re 24/7, so if I can’t sleep, I could work
7. I get to experience different places every day
8. Major flexibility – which makes acting and working so much more manageable

My main goals with working from home were to
-find a job that I enjoyed
-that made a difference
-that allowed me the freedom to work from anywhere
-and find it in enough to time to get really good at it before having kids.

Well, Jesus answered. This company and this work are perfect for me, for my marriage, for mommyhood, and for living life on my terms. I can’t tell you how great it feels to have found it. Answered prayer.

What you want can become your reality.

Pray and push,
Venus
